As of the beginning of April 2026, due to russian aggression, 1,723 cultural heritage sites and 2,524 cultural infrastructure facilities have been destroyed or damaged in Ukraine, mincult.gov.ua reported.
Among the damaged cultural heritage sites, 159 have national significance status, 1,403 have local significance status, and 161 are newly discovered. Forty-five cultural heritage sites have been completely destroyed.
In total, damage has been recorded in 18 regions. The greatest destruction of heritage sites occurred in Kharkiv region — 349, Kherson region — 302, Odesa region — 200, Donetsk region — 195, Kyiv region and the city of Kyiv — 173.
Meanwhile, as a result of shelling and hostilities, 2,524 cultural infrastructure facilities have suffered, of which 518 have been completely destroyed.
Cultural infrastructure has suffered the greatest losses in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Sumy, Kyiv, and Mykolaiv regions.
In total, the following have been affected:
- Club facilities — 1,245
- Libraries — 872
- Arts education institutions — 191
- Museums and galleries — 139
- Theaters, cinemas, and philharmonics — 52
- Parks, zoos — 11
- Nature reserves — 9
- Circuses — 4
- Film studio in the city of Kyiv
Destruction has been recorded in 341 territorial communities across Ukraine. The highest numbers are in the communities of Donetsk (46 communities), Sumy (38 communities), Kharkiv (34 communities), Chernihiv (34 communities), Zaporizhzhia (31 communities), Mykolaiv (23 communities), Dnipropetrovsk (23 communities), Kyiv (21 communities), and Luhansk (12 communities) regions.
Almost the entire territory of Luhansk region and significant parts of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson regions are under temporary occupation. This makes it impossible to accurately calculate the number of cultural institutions affected by hostilities and occupation.
The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and its partners continue to work together to overcome the consequences of the destruction and restore Ukraine’s cultural potential.
