Over 250 years ago, on September 9, 1769, Ivan Kotliarevsky was born in Poltava. His Eneida, first published in 1798, helped lay the foundations of modern Ukrainian literature.

Behind its sharp satire and humour are important messages about courage, freedom and love for one’s homeland.
