On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a solemn opening of the monument to the Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Matsievsky took place in Kyiv. The monument was installed on the territory of the National Historical and Architectural Museum “Kyiv Fortress”, ukrinform.net reported.

“We were in a great hurry to open on this particular date. We are very proud that the Symbol of Invincibility was placed here. It is very important! The museum is visited by many people, including military personnel, students, children, and the elderly. It is very important that we remember at what price this victory is given to us,” said the general director of “Kyiv Fortress” Oxana Novikova-Vygran.

Relatives of the deceased hero were present at the opening: mother Paraska Matsievska-Demchuk and wife Yulia Matsievska. Also among the participants of the event were the founder of the project and philanthropist Oleksandr Vintselevich, general director of “Kyiv Fortress” Oksana Novikova-Vygran, craftsmen Oleg Tsos and Albina Safonova.

Oleksandr Ihorovych Matsievskyi was a Moldovan-born soldier of The Ukrainian Ground Forces. He was captured and executed by ruscists during the Battle of Bakhmut in late December of 2022. The video of the execution circulated online around 6 March 2023, showing a soldier without weapons, smoking a cigarette, saying “Slava Ukraini” and then being shot point-blank with automatic weapons.
