The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution to celebrate World Horse Day. What else is there to do?!, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Sergiy Kyslytsya writes.
“Horses are not guilty” (Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky, 1912). This saying about horses is actually about a hypocritical unwillingness to see the real culprits, to remove the blame from the guilty.
Today, I will propose to the departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that deal with UN issues to clarify our approaches to supporting such initiatives in the future. No more reinforcing the image of the UN as an organization irrelevant to its primary mandate.I recall the resistance the Ukrainian delegation faced when it tried to promote the initiative to introduce the Day to Fight Disinformation for several years. They said: Let’s stop introducing these new days. But apparently, an endless stream of flora and fauna days is rushing through the thickets …
The horses are not to blame? Well, they actually are, if it came to this. And I completely understand and support the US delegation’s proposal to vote on a draft resolution on horses. Those responsible should be held accountable, and if there is something to it, then dragged to the stables in The Hague.
The resolution on the celebration of International Horse Day was proposed by Mongolia by the way. Ironically, the same Mongolia that ratified the Rome Statute but failed to arrest putin during his visit to this country. In violation of all its obligations.
