With more Ukrainians flying than ever before and visa-free EU travel fueling a boom in the country’s aviation industry, Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Krykliy has announced plans to boost the share of low-cost carriers in the Ukrainian air travel sector to 63% by 2021.

The government plans to facilitate this growth in market share by optimizing tax policies to help reduce ticket prices. Ukraine has attracted a number of budget airlines in recent years.

Ryanair and Wizz Air are the two largest international carriers currently operating on the Ukrainian market. In the first eleven months of 2019, the number of passengers flying via Ukrainian airports reached 22.5 million, representing an 18.7% year-on-year increase.
