There is no correlation between strikes on russian refineries and spikes in the price of diesel in the US as this new chart from the Institute of the Study of War [ISW] clearly shows. This was reported by Marc Thiessen, a Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute [AEI].
Diesel prices in the US stayed below $4 a gallon from August 2025 until shortly after the Trump administration and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, prompting Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz, a major global shipping route. Prices in the US started rising again in July after the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, according to the chart.
The Ukrainian strikes are not driving up prices in the US, Thiessen said.
