russian forces sent thousands of Ukrainians to so-called “filtration camps,” Michael Carpenter, US ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said.

“russia’s forces have relocated at least several thousand Ukrainians for processing in “filtration camps,” and evacuated at least tens of thousands more to russia or russia-controlled territory, sometimes without telling evacuees their final destination”, he wrote on Twitter.

The “filtration camps” are being used by russian troops to interrogate Ukrainian civilians for any government or military ties, businessinsider.com writes citing a top US official.

According to Carpenter, some detainees reportedly had their phones confiscated and searched for any signs of opposition to vladimir putin’s ongoing war.

“russia’s soldiers are forcibly relocating civilians, whose homes, cities, and towns have been mercilessly barraged for months with shells, missiles, and bombs, to russia — the very country causing all the needless suffering,” Carpenter stressed.
