The fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko urged the future European commissioners to put aside their fear of putin and ensure Ukraine’s victory in the war. He also emphasized that the membership of our country in the EU and NATO is one of the main conditions for victory over the aggressor country.
“putin must be defeated in Ukraine, not in any other country. putin does not need Crimea, Donbas, Zaporizhzhia, or Kherson. putin doesn’t need territory at all. putin needs victory over democracy, over the rule of law, and over international law. The victory of the autocracy,” Poroshenko emphasized.
“Europe has everything, money, technology, and wonderful people. However, we need to learn something from Ukraine – and it is courage. Courage, because putin weaponizes our fears. And from my point of view, if we throw away our fears, it will weaken putin, and our victory will be closer,” Poroshenko said.“Regardless of the outcome of the American elections, we, Europeans, must be ready to act decisively. Our victory over putin, over his regime, over putin’s russia is impossible without Ukraine joining the EU and NATO. We must ensure the maximum speed of EU accession negotiations without any artificial obstacles. At the same time, the accession process should be based on merit – without turning a blind eye to flaws in fundamental principles: in democracy, in the rule of law, in an independent judiciary, in human rights, in respect for the opposition, in all European values that move our nation forward,” Poroshenko believes.
“Ukraine will win as a democracy. We cannot win the war and lose the peace. That is why it is so important for us to preserve democracy. Therefore, the EU should be and remain an objective watchdog of reforming Ukraine, and not an obstacle to reforms,” Poroshenko believes.He also reminded about the “red lines” regarding Ukraine. “No compromises regarding Ukrainian sovereignty. No compromises on territorial integrity. No compromises on democracy. No compromises on security and the weakening of the Ukrainian army, perhaps one of the strongest on the continent. No compromises on values,” Poroshenko said.
