The executive committee of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) decided that all protective measures will be lifted against athletes and officials holding Belarusian or russian passports.
The athletes of aggressor countries will be permitted to participate in all FIE individual and team events under their respective national acronyms, uniforms, flags, and anthems. The executive committee believes that this decision reflects the FIE’s commitment to non-discrimination, equal treatment, and the universality of sport. The decision will take effect starting with the 2026 Senior World Championships in Hong Kong, China. The championships are scheduled from 22 to 30 July.
As reported, in 2023, the defeated russian fencer “achieved” disqualification for Ukrainian opponent, who refused to shake hands. Later, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine has already added more than 570 russian and Belarusian athletes to the list of those who support the war in Ukraine.
