The fifth president of Ukraine and leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko stressed the need to establish a UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas.

“The first thing we need to do to relieve tensions is to raise the issue of sending UN blue helmets to the occupied part of Donbas at this summit,” Poroshenko said. In this sense, the statement of the Chinese Foreign Minister in Munich on support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is very encouraging, he added, stressing that China is the permanent member of the UN Security Council and a signatory of the Budapest Memorandum.

“Previously, we have worked thoroughly on the issue of peacekeepers. The United States, France, and Germany were in favor. At the same time, we have been assured that China will definitely not use its veto. So we could put russia in a situation where it has no choice but to support the idea,” Poroshenko said.

“The same applies to the return to the Roadmap of the Minsk Agreements, which provides for the principle of “security first”. There is a russian narrative with the so-called “Steinmeier formula” and distortion that contributes to the loss of part of Ukraine’s sovereignty and in no case can we accept russia’s terms and allow ourselves to be deceived,” he added.

According to the fifth president, the security system in Europe can be maintained only through the old, time-tested method – NATO, which should include Ukraine.
