State Enterprise “Scientific and Production Complex “Iskra” proposed to develop and put into production a new Radio Intelligence Station (RTR), which will surpass the capabilities of its renowned predecessor Kolchuga-M, Yuri Pashchenko, the director of “Iskra”, said in an interview with Defense Express.

“At some point, we have raised the question of resuming the production of the Kolchuga-M as it is. But because of its documentation, according to the designers, including those related to its creation, is simply unrealistic. We decided that it isn’t viable to renew or upgrade these stations. Instead, we suggest designing and manufacturing a new machine. It will take all the best qualities from Kolchuga, and new capabilities will be added. It will be a new station, that will look different and will be constructed in a different way,” Pashchenko said.

Kolchuga is an electronic support measures (ESM) system that can detect ground targets and trace their movement within a radius of 600 km and air targets at the 10 km altitude, and up to 800 km away, which makes it an effective early warning air defense system.
