The festival [Toronto International Film Festival – UT] must not provide a platform for whitewashing the crimes of russian soldiers in Ukraine. Their place is on the benches of the International Criminal Court, not on screens, Consul General of Ukraine in Toronto, Oleh Nikolenko, said in a statement.

“Ignoring the attempts of russian propaganda to downplay and distort the realities of russian aggression against Ukraine is irresponsible and unacceptable. We call on TIFF to cancel the screening and on TVO to investigate how this film received public funding for its production,” Nikolenko said.

“Thank you for all those who came today to make our voices heard,” he added.
