Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets called on the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross to punish russia after a video of a Ukrainian prisoner being decapitated was posted online.
“As the Ombudsman of Ukraine, I have sent letters to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, the UN Secretary-General, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to do everything possible to ensure that the perpetrators are punished for every war crime! And also to have this case separately recorded in all reports of international organizations,” Lubinets said.“There is no talk of human virtue on the part of the russian Federation at all. What is this then, if not another proof of the genocide of the Ukrainian people? They publish videos, distribute them, and write horrible comments that express deep hatred for Ukraine and Ukrainians,” the ombudsman emphasized.
As the ombudsman also said that “the public execution of a prisoner is another proof of violation of the Geneva Conventions, international humanitarian law, and violation of the fundamental right to life!”
“I also sent this video to all my fellow ombudsmen around the world with a request that they continue to lobby for support for Ukraine in their countries. And also for the parliaments of their countries to recognize russia as a terrorist country, and russian aggression as genocide of the Ukrainian people! To exclude the russian Federation from all international organizations, as the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions ENNHRI did, excluding the Commissioner for Human Rights in the russian Federation Tetiana Moskalkova.
And finally, under such conditions, how can russia chair the UN Security Council?!” Lubinets said.
