Six athletes from russia and four from Belarus will participate under their national flags at the upcoming Winter Paralympic Games, BBC reported.
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) lifted its ban on athletes from these countries in September, allowing them to compete at the Games. Both nations had been suspended from Paralympic competition following russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with Belarus being a close ally of russia. In 2023, a partial ban was introduced, permitting athletes to compete as neutrals.
However, the four individual governing bodies overseeing the six sports featured at the Paralympics chose to maintain their bans.
