Ukrainian trace in the destruction of putin’s streams: What do WSJ fabulists keep silent about?

The latest episode of the media-series about the Ukrainian trace in the explosion of the Nord Streams by the Wall Street Journal did not add anything new, except for repeating big names – the President of Ukraine and the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, writes President of Centre for Global Studies “Strategy XXI” Michael Gonchar.

The ongoing “development” of this topic reminds me more and more of Kolchugagate in 2002, when Ukraine was accused of allegedly secretly supplying Kolchuga radio-technical intelligence stations to Saddam Hussein’s regime. They were never found, but everything was presented as a fait accompli, and Ukraine found itself in political isolation.

Unlike the one-time Kolchugagate, the current discrediting of Ukraine by its alleged involvement in the explosion of russian gas pipelines is designed for multiple transformative use – as needed. In general, we can say that there was a smooth evolution from “Zal-gate” (the main “perpetrator” was the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Zaluzhnyi, and President Zelensky was unaware of the operation) to “Zele-gate” now, where it turns out that the president was aware, but the military did not listen to him and, despite the order to stop the operation, carried it out.

I will not analyze the absurdity of the Ukrainian trace from the standpoint of the organizational and technical aspects of conducting underwater sabotage operations of a high level of complexity. I did this earlier in articles in “Dzerkalo Tyzhnia”, on the website of the Center “Strategy XXI”, and numerous radio and television broadcasts. Also, many foreign experts expressed skepticism on this topic.

The only thing worth paying attention to is the type of explosives that were used which was already mentioned in the last leak and was repeated now. This is octogen, a more powerful explosive compared to hexogen. Octogen is used primarily to equip shaped charges for various types of ammunition. With the appropriate plasticizer, it is used by special units for sabotage operations.

What is not indicated in the publication (and not only in this one) is what modification of octogen was used (octol or okfol) and how the explosive device was designed, especially since according to the version, one of the devices was lost somewhere in a Swedish port and it should have been found one way or another. Why is this important? Because the explosive and devices types would help narrow the search and indicate more precisely the potential perpetrators and how the devices were obtained.

The production of octogen, unlike the production of trinitrotoluene or hexogen, is not so widespread. In the US there is only one producer – Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport (Tennessee), in Norway – Chemring Nobel, in France – EURENCO. In Poland there are also low-power lines for the production of octogen, one belongs to the private company Jakusz near Gdansk, the other – “NITRO-CHEM” in Bydgoszcz. In russia – the only producer of octogen is the Federal State Enterprise “Plant named after Ya. M. Sverdlov” in Dzerzhinsk near Nizhny Novgorod. But in Ukraine, octogen, like any other special chemicals, is not produced (unfortunately)!

Since the authors of the “Ukrainian trace” ignore the issue of the type of octogen and explosive device, I will not describe this direction further. Let’s just wait for the version of the storytellers from the banks of the Potomac or Spree. With each transformation of the version of the Ukrainian trace, we are getting closer to revealing who benefits from this.

By the way, the kremlin Fuhrer denies the Ukrainian trace in the undermining of Nord Streams. On March 14, 2023, in an interview with the russia-1 TV channel, he said: “I am sure that this is complete nonsense. An explosion of this kind, of such power, at such a depth can only be carried out by specialists, moreover, supported by the power of the entire state, possessing certain technologies.” Well, and then putin, traditionally, pointed to the United States.
