The AP hurried to misinform on Ukraine, yet again

In a Nov. 13 story about Ukraine’s capital Kyiv renaming streets, the Associated Press cited a Jewish organization’s leader as saying one of the streets had been named after Ivan Pavlenko, whom the leader identified as a Nazi collaborator. 

But it turned out that the street was actually named after Viktor Pavlenko, who was a general of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, which fought for Ukraine’s independence after the Bolshevik Revolution and died in 1932.

The original title of the story was “Ukrainian capital names streets after Nazi collaborator.” The problem is, it is not the first “honest mistake” by the AP about Ukraine, far from it. And the second one is – nobody in the million years will read your “correction”. The damage is inflicted and nobody is responsible.
