Giving Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership is one of the most important tasks, which requires the unification of all political and diplomatic efforts, the former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko told reporters in Rotterdam.

“The first point for us is the call of the largest European party to immediately grant Ukraine candidate status at the next summit of the European Union. And we have achieved this. It will now depend on how other party groups work, how other countries work. We must make it toxic for Ukraine to renounce its status,” Poroshenko said.

“It is very important that this was clearly emphasized by the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Parliament,” Poroshenko explained.

“It’s a huge job that we wouldn’t be able to do otherwise. I believe that we have not won today, but we have made a huge step in the right direction,” Poroshenko said.
