russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, who strongly supported the kremlin’s decision to invade Ukraine, spied on Switzerland, Le Matin Dimanche and SonntagsZeitung reported.

According to the declassified archives, russia’s religious leader worked for the KGB and carried out intelligence activities in the 1970s. Kirill reportedly engaged in espionage while working in Geneva as an official representative of the moscow Patriarchate to the World Council of Churches (WCC).

The mission of Kirill was to influence the council, which had been heavily infiltrated in the 1970s and 1980s by Soviet agents.
