The democratic forces in the new composition of the European Parliament, which will be formed following the European elections in June this year, must clearly define the key principles of political cooperation and prevent far-right parties from destroying Europe, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was cited as saying by ukrinform.ua.
“It is very important to establish clear principles with which members of the European Parliament we would like to cooperate. There are three criteria for this. The first – they [political forces – UT] should be pro-European. Second, they must be pro-Ukrainian, which means anti-putin. And thirdly, they should stand up for the rule of law,” Von der Leyen stressed.
She noted that all the leading European political forces participating in these elections are aware that the structure and effectiveness of the new European Parliament will depend on the process of formation of political groups and inter-party associations.
“If you look, for example, at forces like Rassemblement National [France – UT], or AFD [Alternative für Deutschland] in Germany, Vazrazhdane [Bulgaria – UT] or Konfederacja in Poland – they all have different names and different principles. But they all have one thing in common: they are all friends of putin and they want to destroy our Europe. We will not allow this to happen,” the “leading candidate” from the EPP stressed.
