The fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is challenging “the illegal sanctions” that President Zelenskyy’s Decree introduced in the Supreme Court, eurosolidarity.org reported.
According to the case materials, the sanctions were introduced without any legal grounds as a preventive measure, Poroshenko said. And the documents themselves, in particular the NSDC decision and the Presidential Decree, were falsified, he added.
“They [the authorities – UT] want to forbid you from knowing the reason for the sanctions, which did not exist. Sanctions are unconstitutional,” Poroshenko stated. “Neither President Zelenskyy nor others have been able to explain to society the reason for introducing sanctions for more than two months. What exactly did Poroshenko do. Only in response to the court decision did we read that, and it turns out that the sanctions, as the president directly stated in his response, are preventive in nature. In the president’s opinion, we now have a norm in the form of a “thought crime,” the leader of “Eurosolidarity” noted.
“The President’s Office has pressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a demand that the text of the decree be delivered to all Ukrainian embassies to inform the host countries,” Poroshenko noted. He is convinced that the government wants to block large-scale assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the political activities of the opposition through the mechanism of extrajudicial sanctions.
“First: deprive me of the right to participate in the elections as the leader of the opposition, the leader of the largest opposition faction in parliament and a political force. Which European Union are you going to join after this? How are you going to argue for membership in the European Union? How do Ms. Stefanishyna and Ms. Svyrydenko travel and conduct negotiations when they sign under a forged document?” Poroshenko noted.
In addition, according to the authorities’ instructions, the National Bank blocks the ability of the Poroshenko Foundation to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine and even to pay taxes to Petro Poroshenko himself. At the same time, on the eve of introducing sanctions, Zelenskyy submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill on criminal liability for violation of sanctions. Thus, the authorities groundlessly made any transactions of the fifth President impossible.
“You can forbid me from traveling abroad illegally, you can arrest my accounts illegally, you can block my meetings illegally, you can monitor my political activities illegally, but you cannot forbid me from telling the truth,” the opposition leader addressed the authorities.
“I have nothing to hide from people, the court, or the world community. But stop destroying Ukraine. Stop destroying democracy. Stop building a dictatorship. And stop usurping power. Because then the idea of individual heads of state about building a dictatorship in Ukraine will receive irrefutable evidence,” Poroshenko said.
