German ex-chancellor Angela Merkel said in the interview with spiegel.de that she doesn’t blame herself for what is happening in Ukraine.

According to her, it was not possible to create a security architecture that could have prevented this. At the same time, Merkel doesn’t believe that her policy toward russia was wrong in any way. “Diplomacy, if it fails, is not wrong,” she said.

Merkel also made it clear that she wouldn’t apologize for preventing Ukraine from joining NATO. “I don’t think that I have to say that it was wrong, and I won’t apologize for that,” she said.

I consider this situation in Ukraine to be a great tragedy, Merkel added.
