International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi admitted that Ukraine, in fact, didn’t invite him to inspect the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in an interview with bbc.com.

Grossi claims that IAEA has a contractual obligation to perform safety inspections. According to him, this is not a “courtesy invitation that can or cannot be extended.”

At the same time, according to russian media, the IAEA is in touch with russian authorities over a possible visit.

Previously, Ukraine’s state nuclear company Energoatom said Grossi was lying about the invitation in an attempt to legitimize russia’s presence there.
