Hungary continues to block EUR 500m of EU funds for arming Ukraine, wants its OTP bank to be removed from international sponsors of war list

Hungary said that it will continue to block a EUR 500m tranche, under the European Peace Facility (EPF), for arming Ukraine until the Hungarian OTP bank is removed from a list of the international sponsors of war for doing business in russia.

Peter Szijjarto, Hungary’s foreign affairs minister, said that approval would only be granted once Ukraine removes OTP Bank from the list of international sponsors of war and urged his EU counterparts to exert pressure on Ukraine, according to a statement provided by a government spokesperson.

The minister also added that Hungary opposes the diversion of the European Peace Facility funds, originally intended to support stability globally, towards partial financing of arms deliveries to Ukraine
