Ukrainian company LimpidArmor, which created a smart helmet for tank crews based on Microsoft HoloLens smart glasses, has signed a contract with IGG, a recognized leading supplier to the UAE Armed Forces and high-end defense and security solutions provider The startup manager, Mykhailo Hrechukhin, says that in February this year, the company showcased the finished product at the IDEX-2019 military exhibition in Abu Dhabi, UNIAN reports.

The success at the expo led to the signing of the promising contract with IGG, while a few more companies have started negotiations on purchases. LimpidArmor’s cutting-edge product, the Land Platform Modernisation Kit (LPMK), allows the tank/APC crew members to have a 360° vision “through the armor”, hence augmenting the role of tanks and armored personnel carriers on the battlefield, according to Aviation Defense Universe. This technology intends to revolutionize the combat experience and bring it to a new level in the 21st century. The real-time “friend/foe” identification allows to avoid the friendly fire loses in the combat zone, giving a significant advantage to the Armed Forces equipped with such a kit.

The kit’s hardware has stirred up the global media due to the fact that it involves Microsoft HoloLens smart glasses – a civilian technology integrated into the helmet. “Someone sees the speed and the amount of fuel left in the tank, someone sees a sighting complex. In other words, we offer a comprehensive solution able to visualize almost all processes related to the control and exchange of information between operators, as well as reduce losses,” said Mykhailo Hrechukhin.

There are foreign analogues of such systems but they are more expensive and specific: they immediately use military technology, and they are designed to be compatible with other hi-end technologies. The LimpidArmor system can be installed even on a Soviet tank. And due to the use of civil technology (Microsoft glasses), it was possible to make the product significantly cheaper. The LimpidArmor team believe their main potential customers are from the markets where there is a lot of Soviet or western, but outdated, technology. This is the Middle East, Africa, and Eastern Europe.
