Ukrainian agricultural exports increase by 18.6%
Ukraine boosted agricultural export volumes by 18.6% year-on-year during the January-April 2019 period to reach a new total of USD 7.1 billion, writes UkraineInvest Chairman Daniel Bilak.
Corn was the leading commodity, accounting for USD 2.37 billion of overall exports. In a reflection of the Ukrainian agricultural sector’s broadening global horizons, Asian was the top destination market with a 41.6% share of total exports worth USD 2.96 billion. Next came the European Union (33%, USD 2.38 billion), followed by Africa (15.7%, USD 1.1 billion).
Acting Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Olha Trofimtseva noted that these figures underline the role of the agriculture sector as a key driver of the Ukrainian economy, currently representing 43% of all Ukrainian exports.
Last year Ukrainian agricultural exports hit record high of $18.8 bln.
