Ukraine imposes sanctions against Austria’s Coop Himmelblau for constructing opera house in occupied Crimea

Ukraine has imposed sanctions against Austria’s Coop Himmelb(l)au for building an opera house in the russian-occupied Crimea.

Six Austrians were included in the sanction list:

Krieger Harald – acting trustee of COOP HIMMELB (L)AU Wolf D.

Ott Alexander – managing partner of COOP HIMMELB(L)au.

Prix Wolf Dieter – founder and CEO of COOP HIMMELB(L)AU Wolf D. Prix & Partner ZT GmbH

Prossnigg Marcus – managing partner of the company.

Schmidbauer-Volk Karolin – responsible for the design of all architectural projects under development COOP HIMMELB(L)AU Wolf D. Prix &Partner ZT GmbH.

Schmidt Benjamin – managing partner of COOP HIMMELB(L)au.

The sanctions include:

1) blocking of assets;
2) restriction of export-import operations;
3) blocking withdrawal of capital from Ukraine;
4) suspension of economic and financial obligations;
5) revocation or suspension of licenses and permitting documents;

As reported, in 2020 it became obvious that the Austrian architectural bureau Coop Himmelblau was taking part in the construction of an opera house in occupied Sevastopol.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Austria was unable to convince Wolf Prix, the bureau’s director, not to ruin his reputation by participating in the legitimization of the occupation of Ukrainian territory.
