The russian attack on a logistics center in Kharkiv on August 1 destroyed 8 million books. This was reported by the publishing corporation “RNK-Ranok.”
“More than 8 million books were destroyed in the fire, including textbooks for children. This is the largest loss of Ukraine’s book infrastructure since the beginning of the full-scale war,” the statement said.
Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Andrii Butenko reported that the russian troops struck a warehouse of educational literature, where already printed and prepared-for-shipment textbooks for schools were stored. The minister emphasized that this is the second such attack in two weeks. In July, russian troops destroyed more than 410,000 textbooks intended for the new academic year.
“Warehouses and printing houses are chosen as targets deliberately — along with the print runs, they are trying to destroy the Ukrainian language, history, and memory — everything from which the identity of our children grows,” said Andrii Butenko.
