Ferrexpo said to be the first mining company in Europe to deploy autonomous haul trucks on a large scale. A self-driving fleet frees humans from operating in hazardous environments, whilst offering a productivity increase from trucks operating 24/7.
A US company, Autonomous Solutions, installed the autopilot equipment on several large-capacity Caterpillar trucks now in use at the Eristovsky open pit mine in Poltava region.
At the same time, Ferrexpo has already started looking at possibilities of electrification and introducing battery technology to reduce the company’s reliance on combustion engines, reduce carbon footprint and continue on the journey toward zero-carbon mining.
