58 years ago, on March 16, 1962, the first space satellite DS-2 (“Kosmos-1”), was developed at the Yuzhnoye CB and manufactured at Yuzhmash, was successfully launched from Kapustin Yar by the Dnipropetrovsk space rocket “Cosmos”.

This satellite initiated the development and production in Dnipropetrovsk of a large family of space vehicles of the Cosmos series. The Cosmos rockets were launched from Kapustin Yar and Plesetsk cosmodroms until June 18, 1977. A total of 165 launches were made, 143 of which were successful.
