Ukraine appeals to UN Security Council regarding russian passports in Donbas
On Wednesday, April 24, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN appealed to the United Nations Security Council regarding putin’s decree on simplifying the procedure for issuing russian passports in the occupied territories of Donbas.
The appeal was made on the instructions of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko wrote on Twitter. “By order of President Poroshenko, we have already appealed to the UN Security Council,” he wrote.
According to Yelchenko, such action of russia contradicts the Minsk agreements approved by the Security Council.
According to russian media, on April 24, russian President Vladimir putin signed a decree that allows residents of the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine to obtain russian passports under a simplified procedure.
