“Holodomor. Chroniclers” is the first documentary attempt to tell everything that is important to know about the Holodomor. A chronicle of the most terrible events in the history of Ukraine — the famine, which was artificially created by the communist regime of the USSR in order to destroy the Ukrainian people.
The authors of the miniseries focus on the search for the formula of genocide. Together with leading researchers of the Holodomor, they are looking for an answer to why it is not enough to understand Stalin’s genocidal intentions alone to explain the scale of the catastrophe. The first component of that formula is the indifference of the world. Why did the world not react adequately to the death of millions of people in the middle of Europe? How did the Soviet special services mislead the world? Why did Western governments prefer to turn a blind eye to the shocking facts and gruesome details of starvation deaths reported by their diplomats?
In four series: “Capital of Despair,” “Hurray for Stalin!”, “Horsemen of the Apocalypse,” and “The Shadow,” the authors of the project conduct a detailed historical investigation into how it happened that the world knew and remained silent, what exactly was known and to whom, and why we are who we are today. Whose descendants are we, and how can we work through this trauma.
