The sale of the anti-utopia novel “1984” by British writer George Orwell has been banned in Belarus, nashaniva.com reported.

“Withdraw from sale all versions of Orwell novel ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’. Report on implementation no later than May 19,” the order from the authorities said.

The book was banned in the Soviet Union and other totalitarian states in Eastern Europe until 1987. George Orwell’s anti-utopia describes a totalitarian society with no civil rights and individuality.

“War is peace”, “Freedom is slavery” and “Big Brother is watching you” – these only some of the expressions from the novel that became aphorisms.
